Svalbard

SVLABARD

Svalbard is an archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, administered by Norway. It is about 1000 km from the northernmost point of mainland Europe and is quite cold. In addition to polar bears, it is home to seals, reindeer, scientific research facilities, coal mines and, last but not least, a couple of breweries.

The world around 78° N

This piece of land, made up of a group of islands in the Arctic Ocean, is where polar bears say goodnight and Lenin statues oversee the smooth running of Stakhanovite coal mining standards. There are some interesting photos from the capital, Longyearbyen, the former mining settlement of Pyramiden and the still ‘functional’ Barentsburg. In short, Spitsbergen is not only a place of natural beauty, but also an important centre of scientific research and a historical testament to human endeavour and survival in extreme conditions.

You’ve got to check out the text itself (it’s a really fascinating story), where there are loads more photos and videos of the drone!
